This painting is easy to understand; if you've ever had a broken heart; if you've ever been completed shattered by some one that you've given all of your love and faith to. Then you know what it's like when it all falls down.
As you look at this painting, the eyes will be immediately drawn to the seductive young woman, a former lover, ensconced alluringly in vibrant, flowing sheets accentuating her delicate female form. Her legs are spread out provocatively in front of her forming a triangle at the center of the canvas with her head arched flirtatiously on the pillow; her face glittering with nonchalance.
As she entices you in further, however, you will notice that the bed that she rests upon is shattered; radiating outwards the shards appear to crumble over the grim, gray tones of the background falling down on the agonized silhouettes of the artist. Vertical and horizontal lines extend outwards from the temptress at center canvas slicing through the grim imagery around her. After your eyes have studied the bleak imagery upon which she is perched, the vivid tones of the sheets now appear in stark contrast to the tormented gray background; the appealing angle of her body unforgivingly pierces the disconsolate landscape; her flirtatious look now appears mocking and uncaring, yet once again our eyes are tempted by the vivacious colors cascading over the sensuous female form tempting us, alluring us, to our downfall.
