The Chemicals Between Us

Colored pencil on bristol :: 20 x 20" :: 2003

The woman in the center holds her arms up radiant in the joy of newfound love. But is this love real? Or just some random chemical reaction prompting an irresistable physical attraction?

As you look closer at the young woman, you will notice something peculiar. Her arms, body and clothes are formed by the profiles of two young lovers, a man on the right and a woman on the left. If you don't see the profiles right away, look for the ears about mid-canvas and they will easily appear for you. The woman's dress, framed by the two faces, can be seen to be made up of layers.

The layers represent the innumerable experiences shared over the years by two people deeply in love. Each layer adding to and fortifying the foundation of true love, growing with time. Now notice the bottom of the young woman's dress. The two lovers can be seen again but now in their old age still bound together stronger than ever. It is the chemicals between us that triggers a reaction. But will it last for ever?
